電気がない地域の灯りは暗い。灯油ランプの燃料は高価で危険。仕事でネパールに行きヒマラヤを旅行した（かな？）カナダ人の教授（David Irvine-Halliday）が、こういった地域の人々をなんとかしたいと思い、日本の白色LEDによって貧しい国に低コストで明るい光を届ける活動をしている（Light Up the World Foundation）。
